1. What is Hydrosil Hydrobrow Serum? Hydrosil Hydrobrow Serum is a clear, unisex brow serum for dry, itchy, flaky and red, irritated-looking brows. It is a light gel, applied with a brush, that helps soothe itchy-feeling skin, reduce flaking and hydrate the skin in the brow area while softening the brow hairs. It is steroid-free, fragrance-free and made in Britain.
2. What causes dry, flaky and itchy eyebrows? Dry, flaky and itchy eyebrows are usually caused by dryness or irritation in the skin beneath the brow hairs. Common causes include eczema, seborrhoeic dermatitis and contact dermatitis, as well as brow waxing, tinting, plucking or microblading, harsh skincare and cold or centrally heated weather. Stress can also make flaky brows worse.
3. Can I use Hydrobrow on eyebrow eczema or seborrhoeic dermatitis? Hydrobrow is suitable for brows prone to eczema, seborrhoeic dermatitis and other dry, flaky conditions, and many customers use it for exactly this. It is not a medicine and does not treat these conditions, but it helps soothe itchy-feeling skin, reduce flaking and keep the brow skin more comfortable. If your skin is broken or very inflamed, or you are unsure, check with your doctor or pharmacist first.
4. Does Hydrobrow contain steroids? No. Hydrobrow is completely steroid-free, like the rest of the Hydrosil range. It is designed for gentle, everyday use over the long term, without the concerns that can come with prolonged steroid use.
5. How do I use Hydrobrow? Dip the brush into the gel and stroke it along the full length of each brow, working it into the skin between the hairs. Use it twice a day, morning and night, ideally on clean brows before any brow make-up. A little goes a long way, so start with one or two strokes and add more only where the skin is dry or flaky.
6. Can I wear Hydrobrow under brow make-up? Yes. Hydrobrow is a clear gel that dries down without a greasy film, so you can apply it to clean brows and wear brow make-up over the top. For the best result, apply it before your brow products rather than after, which also helps keep the gel clear in the bottle. You can also use it on its own or overnight.
7. How long does Hydrobrow take to work? Most people use Hydrobrow twice a day and find their brows gradually become calmer and less flaky over two to three weeks. A smaller number notice the skin looks drier or flakier for the first week or so as it settles; provided it is not stinging or becoming more irritated, it is usually worth continuing, as the dryness tends to ease as the skin recovers. Everyone's skin is different, so results and timings vary.
8. My brows seem worse since I started using Hydrobrow. Is that normal? For some people, the brow skin can look drier, flakier or a little crusty in the first week as it adjusts, which then settles as the skin recovers. As long as the serum is not stinging or making the area more inflamed, it is usually fine to keep going. If irritation or discomfort occurs, discontinue use, and patch test before trying again or speak to your doctor or pharmacist.
9. Why has my Hydrobrow gone cloudy? A little cloudiness is normal and nothing to worry about. It is usually caused by air being stirred into the clear gel by the brush, which settles if the bottle is left to stand, or by traces of brow make-up carried back into the bottle on the brush. Applying Hydrobrow before any make-up, and stroking through the brows a few times after applying, keeps it clear.
10. Is Hydrobrow suitable for sensitive skin? Hydrobrow is formulated for dry, sensitive and easily irritated skin, and is steroid-free and fragrance-free. As with any product for sensitive skin, patch test before first use. If irritation or discomfort occurs, discontinue use. Note that it contains small amounts of hydrolysed wheat, soy and corn proteins, so take care if you are sensitive to any of these.
11. Does Hydrobrow make your eyebrows grow or look thicker? Hydrobrow is not a brow growth product and is not designed to grow new hair. It is made to calm and hydrate the skin and condition the brow hairs, so brows often look fuller, softer and tidier simply because the skin is more comfortable and the hairs are in better condition. Some customers do say their brows look fuller over time, though individual results vary.
12. Can I use Hydrobrow with my other skincare or a prescribed treatment? Hydrobrow can usually be used alongside your other skincare, applied to clean brows. If you have been prescribed a cream or treatment for your brows or face, do not stop it in favour of Hydrobrow, and check with your doctor or pharmacist before using them together. Avoid layering it with harsh or strongly active products on the same area, which can add to irritation.
13. Can I use Hydrobrow around my eyes or on my eyelashes? Hydrobrow is made for the brows, so avoid getting it into your eyes and do not use it on your lashes. For dry, flaky or irritated skin on the eyelids and around the eyes, Hydrosil Dry Eye Gel is the product designed specifically for that area.
14. Is Hydrobrow vegan and cruelty-free? Yes. Hydrobrow is vegan, cruelty-free and certified as Animal Test Free by PETA, like all Skin Shop products. It is also 97% natural and made in Britain.
15. Can men use Hydrobrow? Yes. Hydrobrow is a clear, unisex serum for men and women, and it is colourless, so it is invisible once applied. It works the same way on all brow types, helping to calm dryness, flaking and itching.
