1. Is KALME Day Defence Cream suitable for rosacea-prone skin? Yes. KALME Day Defence Cream SPF30 is developed specifically for rosacea-prone, red and reactive skin. It contains patented Derma Sensitive® caper extract, which has been clinically studied to reduce skin redness and reactivity by up to 70%. The formula is completely fragrance-free, paraben-free and dermatologically tested, making it suitable for even the most reactive skin.
2. Why does KALME Day Defence use mineral SPF rather than chemical SPF? Chemical UV filters such as avobenzone and oxybenzone are common rosacea triggers. They absorb UV rays and convert them to heat within the skin, which can cause flushing and flare-ups in reactive skin. KALME Day Defence uses zinc oxide, a pure mineral sunscreen that sits on the surface of the skin and physically reflects UV rays without generating heat. This makes it significantly better tolerated by rosacea-prone and sensitive skin.
3. Will KALME Day Defence leave a white cast? Some users with very fair skin notice a very slight luminosity from the zinc oxide mineral sunscreen, particularly if a large amount is applied. Using a small, pea-sized amount and blending thoroughly avoids this. The formula is designed to be lightweight and is suitable as a base under makeup, including the KALME Chameleon Concealer.
4. How long before I notice results? Many customers notice their skin feeling calmer and less reactive within the first few days of use. Visible reduction in redness typically becomes noticeable between weeks two and three, with continued improvement over the following weeks and months. Consistent daily use is key. The formula works cumulatively, and results continue to build over time.
5. Can I use KALME Day Defence with other skincare products or brands? We recommend using KALME Day Defence as part of the complete KALME routine for best results, as each product in the range is formulated to work together without triggering reactivity. If you use products from other brands, introduce them gradually and avoid anything containing fragrance, alcohol, or chemical exfoliants, as these are common rosacea triggers.
6. Is KALME Day Defence suitable for eczema-prone skin? KALME is developed primarily for rosacea-prone and reactive skin. If you have eczema-prone skin, our Hydrosil range is specifically formulated for dry, itchy and eczema-prone skin. That said, several customers with both rosacea and eczema tendencies use KALME Day Defence successfully, as the fragrance-free, gentle formula is well tolerated by most sensitive skin types.
7. Can I use KALME Day Defence during pregnancy? KALME Day Defence is fragrance-free, paraben-free and uses mineral rather than chemical SPF, which many people prefer during pregnancy. However, as with all skincare during pregnancy, we recommend consulting your GP or midwife before introducing new products into your routine.
8. Is KALME Day Defence suitable for men? Yes, rosacea affects men and women equally and KALME Day Defence is suitable for all genders. The lightweight, non-greasy formula absorbs well and can be worn alone or under makeup.
9. Can KALME Day Defence replace my regular moisturiser and SPF? Yes. KALME Day Defence Cream combines daily moisturisation with mineral SPF30 sun protection in a single step, making it ideal as your sole morning moisturiser. Using a separate SPF on top is not necessary, though some users with very high sun exposure may choose to do so.
10. What makes KALME different from other rosacea skincare brands? Most mainstream moisturisers and SPF products contain fragrance, chemical UV filters or other ingredients that commonly trigger rosacea flare-ups. KALME is built from the ground up specifically for rosacea-prone skin, using patented Derma Sensitive® caper extract alongside mineral zinc oxide SPF and naturally derived actives. It is made in Britain, dermatologically tested, PETA-certified cruelty-free and has been trusted by rosacea sufferers across the UK for over 20 years.
