1. What is PSOregon Anti-Plaque Shampoo? PSOregon Anti-Plaque Shampoo is a descaling, scalp-cleansing shampoo for dry, flaky and psoriasis-prone scalps. It is built around Oregon Grape Root (Berberis Aquifolium), with juniper tar, thyme oil and Piroctone Olamine, which help lift away visible dry flakes while gently cleansing the scalp and supporting scalp comfort. It is coal tar-free, 88% naturally derived, vegan and made in Britain.
2. Is it suitable for scalp psoriasis? It is formulated specifically for dry, flaky and psoriasis-prone scalps, helping to remove visible dry flakes through gentle daily cleansing. It is a cosmetic scalp-care product rather than a medicine, so we cannot guarantee results, and every scalp responds differently. If you have been diagnosed with psoriasis or another scalp condition, we recommend following the advice of your GP or dermatologist.
3. How is it different from a dandruff or dry-scalp shampoo? Ordinary dandruff is usually linked to naturally occurring scalp micro-organisms and often responds to anti-dandruff shampoos, while a dry, sensitive scalp benefits from gentle, non-stripping care. PSOregon Anti-Plaque Shampoo is designed for dry, flaky and psoriasis-prone scalps, while Hydrosil Scalp Shield Shampoo is generally better suited to dry, sensitive and eczema-prone scalps.
4. Does it contain coal tar, and why does it have a smell? No. PSOregon Anti-Plaque Shampoo is coal tar-free. Its naturally aromatic, mild smoky scent comes from juniper tar (cade), a naturally derived ingredient, rather than added fragrance. Some people enjoy this distinctive scent, while others prefer to follow with PSOregon Anti-Plaque Conditioner for a lighter fragrance experience.
5. Does it contain SLS or sulphates? It is free from SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate). It uses a milder, naturally derived cleansing base than many high-street shampoos, designed to cleanse the scalp thoroughly without the harsh detergents that strip and tighten sensitive skin. It is also free from MI, parabens and added perfumes.
6. How long does it take to see a difference? Everyone's scalp is different, so experiences vary from person to person. Many users say their scalp feels cleaner and more comfortable after the first few washes, while regular use helps maintain the cosmetic benefits of the shampoo over time. Because PSOregon Anti-Plaque Shampoo is a cosmetic product rather than a medicine, wecannot guarantee individual results.
7. Can I use it every day, long term? Yes. The formula is gentle enough for daily and frequent use, and many customers choose it as part of their long-term scalp care routine because they enjoy the way it leaves their scalp feeling clean and comfortable.
8. Can I use it alongside a prescribed or medicated scalp treatment? Many customers use it as their regular shampoo alongside treatments prescribed by their doctor, and some find the natural scent more pleasant than medicated alternatives. As everyone's situation is different, if you are using a prescribed scalp treatment, we recommend checking with your GP or dermatologist before combining products.
9. What conditioner should I use with it? We recommend PSOregon Anti-Plaque Conditioner, developed to complement the shampoo. It helps soften dry flakes, supports scalp comfort, conditions the hair and softens the shampoo's naturally aromatic scent. The two products are also available together as the PSOregon Hair Care Pack.
10. Is it vegan and cruelty-free, and where is it made? Yes to both. PSOregon Anti-Plaque Shampoo is vegan, certified cruelty-free by PETA, and made in Britain. As with all products for sensitive scalps, we recommend a patch test before first use and stopping if any irritation occurs.
11. Can children use PSOregon Anti-Plaque Shampoo? The shampoo is made with gentle, naturally derived ingredients, and some parents do use it for older children with scaly, flaky scalps. Because children's skin is more delicate and their scalp conditions are best assessed properly, we always recommend speaking to your GP, pharmacist, or a dermatologist before using it on a child, and patch testing first. It is not intended for babies or infants.
12. Will it help with an itchy scalp? Many customers tell us their scalp feels more comfortable with regular use, as gentle cleansing helps remove visible dry flakes and excess build-up. PSOregon Anti-Plaque Shampoo is a cosmetic scalp-care product rather than a medicine, so we cannot promise specific results. If scalp discomfort is persistent, severe or accompanied by other symptoms, we recommend seeking advice from your GP or dermatologist.
13. PSOregon or Hydrosil Scalp Shield Shampoo: which one do I need? The two shampoos are designed for different scalp care needs. PSOregon Anti-Plaque Shampoo is intended for dry, flaky and psoriasis-prone scalps, while Hydrosil Scalp Shield Shampoo is better suited to dry, sensitive and eczema-prone scalps. If you are unsure which product is right for you, we recommend speaking with your GP, pharmacist or dermatologist.
14. Can I use it on other parts of my body with scaly skin? PSOregon Anti-Plaque Shampoo has been developed specifically for cleansing the scalp and hair. For dry, flaky and psoriasis-prone skin on other parts of the body, the PSOregon range also includes the Maintenance Cream and Intensive Serum, which are formulated for use on the skin. As with any new cosmetic product, patch test before first use and discontinue use if irritation occurs.
